Why mini Baby Spice would love to ‘get the band’ back together | Ents & Arts News

A woman who appeared as a younger version of one of the Spice Girls in one of the group’s videos nearly 30 years ago, has told Sky News she is still hoping to get all five of them back together after a previous attempt failed.

Sharna D’Rosario played Baby Spice and appeared in the video for the group’s hit, Mama, aged just three years old, along with four other youngsters who played the group’s other singers.

Sharna made contact during the pandemic with Alice Connor, who played the mini Posh Spice.

Now 30, she told Sky News she “would just like to reconnect” with the other three members to “see how everyone’s getting on and what they’re doing”.

Asked if she’d be interested in singing and dancing with them, like her idols, she said “if we did manage to all meet up”, she would “look at maybe remaking something, maybe a part of the video or even just a photo that we got back in the 90s”.

The first attempt at reuniting was around the 25th anniversary of the release of the all-conquering girl band’s debut album, Spice, in 2021.

But even though their efforts “got quite big on social media” and “went viral”, they couldn’t find the others.

She said “a lot of people were sharing it. A lot of fan pages were sharing it, and I managed to get into contact with Alice, who played a young Victoria Beckham, and we tried to share it a bit further, but we couldn’t find the last three and unfortunately didn’t get the group back together again”.

The real Spice Girls split up in 2001, but did manage to reunite for a tour in 2007 and even performed at the London Olympics closing ceremony in 2012. A European tour took place in 2019, but without the real Posh Spice.

Sharna admitted the band “did become a little part of my childhood” following the filming as she “got their video and I got their music, and I used to listen to their CDs”.

And another Spice Girls reunion tour “would be lovely”, as she’s sure “fans across the world would love that”.

As for the day of the shoot, she said her memories are vague, but “it was a bit of a fun day”, even though she was “terrified” when she “saw the camera for the first time”.

In one part of the video, where she’s dressed as a fairy, she is actually crying, she admitted, even though “the production team did make it a very fun day”.

In total, the Spice Girls enjoyed nine UK number one hits, including Say You’ll Be There, 2 Become 1, Who Do You Think You Are, Spice Up Your Life, and Viva Forever.

Their three studio albums have sold almost 40 million copies, including more than 23 million of Spice, bestsellingalbums.org said.

Sharna, who works in the NHS, is married and had a daughter of her own last year.
